Deadmans Creek Bridge

The Department of Roads and Maritime Services has announced that construction will soon commence on a new bridge for the Deadmans Creek crossing.

The current bridge over Deadmans Creek on Heathcote Road at Sandy Point was constructed 69 years ago, during World War II. It is narrow and does not meet current design standards.

View details of the project on the RMS Roads Project page  or download the Community Update document from the RMS web site.

The Department of Roads and Maritime Services is seeking community involvement in the proposed design. View the plans at the Liverpool Motor Registry or Engadine Motor Registry.

Why should you be concerned ....?

SPPA have canvassed the Department of Roads and Maritime Services for some time to upgrade the intersection of St George Cres and Heathcote Road to provide a safe exit from St George Crescent.  These requests have fallen on deaf ears.  With the upgrade of the bridge we fear increased traffic flow and vehicle speed making it even harder to exit St Geoarge Cres in peak times.

Currently there is no plan to include an upgrade of the intersection as a part of the bridge upgrade.

This is probably the last opportunity to have the intersection upgraded.  If it is not done as part of the bridge upgrade then it will not be done.

Unfortunately the information sessions held at the Sandy Point Community Centre have finished but you still have the opportunity to send your comment to the Dept of RMS.

Submissions on the proposed Deadmans Creek bridge closed on 30 Novenber, 2012.

However construction does not start until the next financial year (post July 2013) so there might still be the chance to influence the government on this decision.

Upgrade of the St George Crescent and Heathcote Road intersection in conjunction with the bridge upgrade is the only sensible solution to the problems accessing Heathcote Road from St George Crescent.

This is probably the only chance for improvement to the intersection so have your say.  Write to the Minister now.
