SANDY POINT NEEDS YOUR HELP

Wondering why your Progress Association is raising money?

We don’t have the funds to pay for legal and expert advice to curtail operations at the Sandy Point Quarry.

Currently Benedict Industries have a licence to quarry 30,000 tonnes of rock per annum.

They have applied to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to increase this to 200,000, as well as applying to the State Government to zone the quarry site a ‘State Significant Site’ so they can increase quarrying to 440,000 tonnes per annum.

Some homes have already been affected by the blasting.   If quarry limits are increased there will be many more blasts.

You all would have noticed the trucks passing our entry.    We have been counting and during the first week of September 24 truck movements in and out of the quarry PER HOUR have been recorded.    Most of these trucks are pulling heavy trailers.    How many will there be if the State Government allows an increase in quarrying limits?     How will it affect our exiting Sandy Point?

To date our approaches to the EPA have fallen on deaf ears and our many invitations to address our community have been ignored.

We don’t want dust, blasting and traffic problems so the Association has decided to fight the quarry.   That is why we are asking Sandy Point residents to assist by coming along to our fund raising event.

WE CANNOT SUCCEED WITHOUT THE SUPPORT OF THE RESIDENTS
